Fishing and Boating in the Far North

fishing-boating-far-northThe Far North Area is known world-wide for its abundant fish life.

There are great surf casting opportunities on 90 mile, and Rarawa Beaches. Rock fishing at Henderson Bay, Tapotupotu and Spirits Bays. There is good wharf fishing off Pukenui Wharf, or at the Houhora Big Game and Sports Fishing Club. We can help you with directions and bait advice, or you can hire a guide (even better advice!!)

If you have your own boat or kayak, the harbour is surprisingly good and offers sheltered fishing. There are 3 boat ramps, at Pukenui Wharf, and the game club (all tides) or at Houhora Heads on low tide.

Houhora Fishing Charters

Rob Parker runs Houhora Fishing Charters. He has a small purpose built boat and uses his vast knowledge of the area to take you to places where you will catch fish. Growing up on the West Coast, fishing was an everyday part of life, and with 22 years charter experience in both surfcasting and boat fishing, whether you’re new to fishing or experienced and wish to fish new grounds,Rob will endeavor to give you the trip to remember,  “The Houhora Coastline and its pristine waters are abundant with BIG Snapper, and often dolphins and orca can be seen…it will give you a feeling of an untouched part of the Far North-  Perfect if you want to get away from the hustle and bustle of highly populated tourist parts of the North” Rob can brag, he is a two time winner of the 90 Mile Snapper Classic, and has an excellent catch rate of MEGA snapper, with 14 going over the magical 30lbs!! ,

What Guests Say…

I have always wanted to see the light house at Cape Reinga and so two weeks ago made the trip north from Whangarei. I was most fortunate to discover the Pukenui Holiday Park where I stayed for a couple of nights. On my arrival at the camp I was met by the lovely and very friendly ‘camp minders’ who showed me a great site in a quiet area...
